What bass enclosures would ba a match to MR94 horns

    Hello all,

I have a pair of 291 drivers behind MR94 horns with Speakerlab K's doing the LF and EV T350's picking up the HF. The speakers have an active crossover. I am not thrilled with the K's as there is a huge built in cabinet for the back that is not optimal for the folded horn design and rattles a bit. So, what LF enclosure and driver would integrate best with the MR94's? I recently picked up a pair of 620 enclosures and was wondering these could do the job with the right driver or maybe a couple A-7 LF enclosures or something JBL or a decent sub or ?

    Greets!

Define 'best' since my default response is to match a horn with a horn, so size, cost, build complexity usually defines 'best'.

As to size, anything close to the klipschhorn clones will work, I like horns, don't have cabinet making skills and would like to come in around $1000 or under.
    Thanks

Re: What base enclosures would ba a match to MR94 horns

    You’re welcome!

Drat! It takes either a Mantaray style diffraction horn or dual 15”/channel at minimum to do this big horn any justice, so that eats up the $1k and maybe then some.

The A7, etc., small, single driver horn is a very poor horizontal pattern match to it.

Oh well, according to the published DI plots, the 94 was designed for a XO point match to a single 15” at 800 Hz blending to a 1200 Hz horn XO point, which just happens to be ~ a ? WL apart to deal with the acoustic phasing mismatch between a compression horn and point source radiator when the VCs are lined up, so I guess a single 15” it is with an adjustable XO that rolls off the woofer around 800 Hz and the horn around 1200 Hz, both 2nd order, at least as a starting point for fine tuning.

At this point, we need to know more about the room and where the listening position [LP] is and where the speakers will be as well as what powers them and whether or not you plan to add a ‘sub’ system since a single Altec 15” in a basic vented or sealed alignment is a bit anemic compared to a corner K-horn.
